Our family has a long history
Clemente Moratti was an important figure who, after his studies, his wine experience and being a farmer in the Espinassi’s property, was hired by the Gherardesca counts. He carried out many important initiatives, such as the birth of the Bolgheri road (the future “Viale dei Cipressi” of Carducci’s poem) and the planting of extensive vineyards, taking the first step towards the affirmation of the prestigious Bolgheri wine. Later he also bought plots of land that gave him the opportunity to found his Moratti farm which, under the guidance of his son Giovanni, in the early nineteenth century, became a thriving business in continuous technical evolution, mainly dedicated to farming, olive growing and viticulture. The surname Espinassi was added in the mid-1800s after a generous bequest from a relative of Maria Espinassi Moratti di Casaglia thus forming the current and complete name.

In 1848-1849 Odoardo Espinassi Moratti, a man of great culture, hosted the "Bolgheri fugitive" Michele Carducci with his family, including his son the famous poet Giosuè Carducci, in the main house on the top of the hill. Between the end of the 1800s and the early 1900s, the farm passed from hand to hand in the family, experiencing periods of splendor. In 1940 it was inherited by Antonietta Espinassi Moratti married to Eng. Giusto Cancellieri who, together with the factors of the time, prepared important innovations and changes within the business and the various land possessions and farmhouses.
In the mid-sixties, with the death of Antonietta, the company came to one of the two daughters Dr. Maria Bianca Cancellieri, wife of the emeritus Prof. Franco Scaramuzzi, formerly magnificent rector of the University of Florence and President of the Accademia dei Georgofili. Their love, he was a very young Professor and she was one of the few women enrolled in agriculture at the time, was born around a thesis on the olive tree and the different varieties of olive plants. In this type of activity is concentrated the company with a good production of an extraordinary DOP extra virgin olive oil. Olive is also the name they also wanted to give to their daughter, Maria Oliva Scaramuzzi and the story continues ....
